Narration: “The brilliant sunshine. The moving water surface. Happily making a racket basketball club members *Amamiya and others playing water gun and beach ball* and elementary students from who knows where *kids pushing each other*, ..ah, it is really noisy. *Yuki sitting by the pool side* The morning practice is already over at 12pm. If it is according to the usual thing, I should be concentrating my energy in reviewing and preparing for the exam in the afternoon-- As to why we are in this place..” Flashback: While the cicadas are chirping, Amamiya and others happily say in surprise, “Swimming pool!?” Miyoshi tells them that he’ll bring them out tomorrow after morning practice. “After all, it is summer vacation. If you guys always practice, then basically you won’t have any time for a breather--” Amamiya asks if that is true, Miyoshi-chan!! Yuki tells them that if they are going on an outing, they cannot use the club’s money for their expenses. Miyoshi says how stupid, as a teacher, he can help them pay the money for that insignificant ticket and let him say that tomorrow, there is a half price discount for students. Everyone is calling out to ‘Miyoshi’ that he tells them to call him with respect [/with a honorific].
Yuki thinks, “Swimming pool huh.. would they be playing quite rough [/wildly]. Even if I’m a bit uneasy but if the teacher is going to accompany them--” Miyoshi says that he would still be a bit uneasy if they’re the only ones going but he’ll be at ease since Yuki is around so pay attention not to play around too rough. This made Yuki go !? End flashback. Narratin: “Thus, I have no choice but to accomplish the task of watching over them.” Holding an inflatable float, Amamiya and Abe shout that number 2, champion candidate Amamiya and Abe team are coming-!! Then, while sitting on the float, they slide down to the pool. The others laugh and say to quickly run for the idiots are coming over. Watching them, Yuki thinks that there is no other more difficult thing than watching over them..they would be totally excited just by looking at some people undressing. “Last year when they went to the beach, they are also exceptionally excited.” Standing behind her, Shou bends down and asks if she isn’t going to swim. “Could it be that you’re a hammer [/dry duck in Chinese = cannot swim]” While some girls are fangirling over how handsome Shou is, surprised Yuki asks what. Shou asks if his towel is thrown over here. Yuki nervously says that it is at that side. Shou says that it is this one. While wiping his face, Yuki thinks that a few days before, after that thing [<- Yuki failed to stop Noda from being hit by Shouji], she has been thinking in detail from her own point of view.
In the end, what she needs is, ‘improvised [/self-made] heart’ and ‘power of concentration’. And that is the problem of how to differentiate in dealing with things.. “Yes. Club activity is club activity. Studies is studies. *looks at Shou from the corner of her eye* Love [/romance] is love.” She is startled for he is staring at her. She asks what it is. Yuki starts to wonder if it is because of her swimsuit being very strange. She blushes when Shou holds out his hand to her and then, to her surprise, he pinches her nose tightly. She says that huhrts. He says that her nose is so small. She asks huwat is he doing.. Then, the others call out to Shou to come and play a swimming relay with them. Shou says that he’s thirsty so he’ll be a drink. Holding her nose, Yuki wonders what’s up with that brat when obviously, she is currently seriously pondering-- While walking, Shou recalls what Yuki told him. Then someone says, “‘Because I’m always thinking of you’-- Did your favorite [you liked most] senpai.. say those words to you?” Shou turns around to see Arisa. Shou asks why she is here, so noisy to death. Following him, Arisa says that she and Miho are having fun together and it is because today is ‘student pay half price’ day. “By the way, isn’t it very good that the two of you are harmonious [mutually love each other], and isn’t it good to be a bit more intimate with her once again?
After a pause, Shou says that even if the person he likes said that to him, he couldn’t cheerfully accept it completely. By the pool, a couple of women ask Tonomura if he came with his friends and if he is free tonight. While holding his glasses, Tonomura apologizes and says that he is still a high schooler. The girls squeal if that is absolutely for real, and he’s a college student, right? At the side, jealous Kanda curses about Tonomura’s fully sexy demeanor and obviously he has a girlfriend.. Shouji fumes if it is the face, after a guy still depends on the face..! On a swimming tube, Hatori says that Tonomura and Shou do not have this kind of jealous feeling and lately, he finally understands it a bit. Shouji curses and says that like this, they can only use the 50m breaststroke and thoroughly defeat them.. He glances at the side and screams in shock at Himiko and exclaims that is no good. This surprises Himiko. Kanda shouts that she cannot wear a school swimsuit. The two guys grab her and shouts okay, treat this as her showing of full enthusiasm, let’s go pitching [/throw ball]! [<- probably throw her into the pool] Yuki calls out to them and why they are bullying the first year. She bumps into someone. She apologizes and looks up to see Shizuka. Shizuka blushes and mutters her name. Shizuka’s friend says that it is someone from Ryuhoku -> that furious manager.
Kira greats Yuki and says that’s an amazing swimsuit. Yuki greets him back. Yuki thinks that the Misuzu people are also here..this is bad..if Shou and Shizuka meet, things will become troublesome again.. Kira says, Ah. “Ah ya, there is a mosquito on your beautiful back, Shizuka.” With that, he smacks Shizuka’s back hard that Shizuka shouts it hurts. While Kira says that he’s going, Yuki holds Shizuka steady and asks if he is okay. Angrily thinking over what the captain did, Shizuka apologizes. He looks at puzzled tense Yuki and thinks that he didn’t think..obviously he already thought that they won’t see each other again but in the end, they’ll bump into each other in this place. “No, even if I thought of ‘want to see her’ but, I still have not sort out ..my feelings well.. *looks at puzzled Yuki’s chest* I really should die. *hits his head on the post* Where am I looking at!!!” Yuki worriedly asks if Shizuka is really alright. Then, there is a scream. Yuki thinks that it is Himiko. She apologizes and says that she came here together with her kouhai then, see you later[/goodbye]... Shizuka immediately grabs Yuki’s arm and tells her to wait. After realizing what he did on impulse, he asks, when would they ‘see each other again’..next time, when can they see each other. Yuki blushes and looks at Shizuka in surprise.
Then, Shou smacks Shizuka’s back and says that there is a mosquito. After screaming that it hurts, Shizuka shouts what he is doing, you big jerk. He thinks that this guy also came. Aghast and nervous Yuki wonders why Shou would appear in such a troublesome time. She tries to explain that it seems that Shizuka and also the other Misuzu people came together, just now is.. She is surprised when Shou just turns away from her and left. Shizuka looks at Yuki’s expression. Then, Himiko arrives to say that they have lost the locker key. Amamiya, Kanda and Shouji say that it is their fault. Yuki asks what they are doing. Yuki thinks that it is no good, she still cannot move her sight away [from them]. Walking around, Yuki has a headache for if they lost the locker key, it seems that there will be a fine [/penalty]..and before that, Himiko couldn’t change her clothes so she must quickly find it.. She wonders where did Miyoshi go at this kind of time.. She recalls him saying that he is afraid of the sun so he’ll find some store where he can sit so he’ll be troubling her [in looking after the others]. Then, Yuki recalls how Shou turns away from her. She thinks that normally, he would definitely show an extremely unhappy expression and then, abnormally nag her by let out his assault [of questions]. He would ask what they are talking, when did they meet, what are they doing there.
Yuki wonders if he is being difficult with her again but then, just now, he is acting very strange <- saying that her nose is so small. “Perhaps, he doesn’t at all want to say that kind of insignificant things— Rather, there is some other thing that he wanted to tell me..” Then, Yuki overhears some laughs. Yuki thinks that she heard that laugh before. And, she sees Arisa with her friends who call out to Yuki. Yuki thinks that there are a lot of familiar people here because today is a ‘students pay half price’ day and could it be that she came for Shou. Arisa asks what happened. Recalling what she has something to do, Yuki asks them if they saw a locker key nearby. They say that they didn’t so Yuki thanks them and says goodbye. While Arisa is looking at her, Yuki thinks that things between her and Shou has nothing to do with others for it is totally her own problem. Arisa goes to her and offers to help her find the locker key. Yuki tries to refuse but Arisa insists that she is quite idle and besides her vision is 2.0. Then, she asks if Yuki had already looked at that side. Yuki observes that Arisa is very passionate [enthusiastic] that she [Yuki] felt like she can somewhat understand the reason why Arisa can be always be friends with Shou who is that kind of person.
Arisa then says that Yuki is also really working hard or she should say that Yuki worries too much.. “You are totally different..from the person whom Naruse used to go out with.” After looking surprised, Yuki looks at Arisa and thinks, ‘person went out before’ yes, this girl knew the Naruse that she didn’t know. While searching around some bushes, Arisa says that it is because we know each other [<- as friend or acquaintance, the ex-girlfriend] and even if right now, she [Arisa] still doesn’t quite understand Yuki..but, she has this interest in understanding and knowing what kind of person is the one whom Shou is currently going out with. Aghast Yuki says no..they are not at all going steady.. Arisa says, “-because, *faces Yuki* I like Naruse. ..if senpai doesn’t need him, then, I want to have that guy.” Yuki is stunned and goes !!!? Looking at the side, Arisa says that she found a kakigori [shaved ice beverage] store so she’ll go at that side for a bit to look. Then, Arisa asks if anyone saw a key around..no, it isn’t for the bicycle. Yuki recalls the time when she and her siblings are eating kakigori. Her brothers screamed that they want Yuki’s. Their mother shouted that weren’t they the ones who, no matter what, wanted to eat natto [fermented soybean] flavor so why don’t they eat what’s theirs!! Yuki said that it is okay, she’ll switch with them.
Yuki tasted their kakigori and thought that it is sucky that she wanted to quickly puke. Then, her grandmother patted her head and smiled. She told Yuki not to force herself. End flashback. Narration: “I do not know when it started, that I had become unable to properly express out my own desire. *recalls what Arisa just said about wanting Shou* I’m incapable of saying that kind of words just like that girl--” And, Shou comes out of the water. Nishiyama says that Shou won. Hitting the side with his fist, Shouji complains about losing again. Shou says that if Shouji loses again, he’ll treat him to eat tomorrow afternoon. Shouji curses over why he couldn’t even win once!! He complains that Shou’s arms and legs are long. Nishiyama says okay, as a guy, he totally lost. Shou looks at the side. Yuki overhears some guys saying that it seems that he had just kicked a key. Yuki wonders where..could it have dropped into the water. She scowls. Pinching her nose, she dives into the pool. Honestly speaking, she isn’t quite good in swimming but then, she is too embarrassed to talk about it. She hopes that she can find it before it is washed away. Then, she sees the bracelet locker key on the pool’s floor. She walks to where she saw it. She thinks that it is great, like this, they can open the locker.. Then, she had a cramp. She opens her mouth in pain for her leg is cramming. She was careless because she doesn’t plan on swimming so she didn’t do any warm-up exercises. Ah, her foot is twisting. She wonders where is the water surface, she must quickly go up..
And, to her surprise, someone carries her up to the water surface. It is Shou. While some girls are watching them, Shou asks what is she doing.. She tries to explain while coughing out. She becomes tense for she is touching his skin and besides, he will absolutely look down on her being a hammer. “No, but--” After he puts her down by the side of the pool, Yuki thinks that only this time, no matter what he tells her, she won’t be able to answer back because she’s too stupid.. Yuki mutters her thanks. Shou says ya, and then he turns around to leave. This surprises Yuki and thinks that it is here again, slightly ill feeling, this isn’t the normal Naruse. She calls out to him and asks what is it, if there is something he wants to say, then, do not hesitate to say it out.. She waits for his answer. While swimming away, he says, “If your butt has a bit more meat, then you’ll be more moe [/adorable].” Yuki looks dark and thinks that she doesn’t care anymore [/you are on your own]. Later on, Miyoshi groans while looking at his cellphone. He asks if this is for real. He tells the others that his ex-wife came back to take the luggage and right now, she is still staying at his house. Since it is like that, would they want to eat a bowl of ramen? The others think that Miyoshi doesn’t want to stay at his house today and is using the club activity as an alibi and besides, today is ‘students pay half the price’ day. Narration: “—in the end, your mischief also won’t disappear. After all, what is this uneasiness?”
Comment: Hm..is the mangaka setting up a love polygon of some sort to progress their relationship? Since they are not officially going steady, Shizuka can still go see Yuki. In a way, it seems that Shizuka is the total opposite of Shou. ^^; And, I’m referring to how innocent he is compared to Shou. Because of how Shou is turning away from Yuki, Shizuka might think that he has a chance with her. As for Arisa, it seems that she is indeed interested in Shou. For now, she doesn’t seem to be actively pursuing Shou even if she is Shou’s pesky stalker/admirer. She seems happy for Shou if things are okay with Yuki and Shou but won’t hesitate to give a declaration if things aren’t going smoothly. For now, it seems that Shou has things on his mind probably on how to deal with what Yuki told him, and is giving Yuki the cold shoulder unless he is needed/he cannot help it. Is that giving her space? Making her be the one to pursue after him? Of course, it will cause Yuki to misunderstand him. His answer to her if he wanted to say something isn’t helping much either. In a way, from this chapter, I get a feeling that Yuki never had fun in her life since she is always ‘on duty’ and sacrificing what she wants for others especially during childhood. It does seem that the one who can understand her is her beloved grandmother. Her ‘bad habits’ are hard to break since she has been doing that since childhood and it has been years. One of that ‘bad habits’ is shown here. She obviously doesn’t know how to swim yet she would dive in the deep part of the pool to get the key. She isn’t used to relying on anyone and would rather do things by herself. Thankfully, she didn’t drown since Shou had probably noticed her earlier on. Anyway, maybe the ex-girlfriend will appear in the near future since she is mentioned again. I wonder if she would be like Arisa since she is supposedly completely different from Yuki.
